On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, representatives of Premier Volleyball of Delaware and Special Olympics of Delaware came together at Christiana High School to present a check for the money collected via Premier Volleyball of Delaware's Small Change Campaign through the month of March under the leadership of Prime Coach, Cathy Burke! THANK YOU CATHY!
Present were: Michelle Goldstein, Special Olympics of DE volleyball and swim coach and Ann Grunert, Executive Director of Special Olympics of DE. Cathy Burke and MaryPat Kwoka presented Premier Volleyball of Delaware. In addition, several Premier players, coaches and parents and Special Olympics athletes and their parents were there.
After a brief introduction and presentation, MaryPat Kwoka explained the Small Change fundraising event that took place in March at the various practice sites up and down the state.
MaryPat gave some special thank yous to:
- Jim Clougherty for going to so many sites spread out in Kent and Sussex Counties.
- Cathy's daughter, Megan O'Brien, and to her workplace, Master Sidlow and Associates. Megan took a volleyball and brochure and placed in their kitchenette and the Staff at Master Sidlow dropped in $124.53!!!
- Cathy's client, Jeff Burtch, an attorney in Wilmington, who, when he heard of the fundraising event, dragged in two large bags filled with coins to his office downtown to give to Cathy as a donation. These two very heavy bags amounted to a donation of $185.25.
- Jennifer Pritchard, one of our awesome volleyball moms, who donated the money she collected from her college students.
- One of our Prime families, the Smooklers, who encouraged their daughter, Bella, to give as generously as she could and then Mr. and Mrs. Smookler would match her contribution, presenting us a check for $60.00!
- Also another big thank you to Cathy's client, Louise, who personally and graciously donated $500 to benefit Special Olympics.
Then Many, many thanks for everyone who donated each penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar bill, five dollar bill, ten dollar bill and twenty dollar bill (and those that donated the bobby pin, hair clip, safety pin, hair tie, button and medications).
Maybe give the tidbits of information such as 10,920 coins were rolled (which would cover a Volkswagen Beetle car), the coins weighed 80 pounds (the equivalent of four car tires) and if the rolls were lined up end to end they would be the length of two busses.
Cathy gave some thank you to:
- Mary Pat and Trina for their donations, their time and efforts in coordinating this fundraising event and making it happen
- Danielle Williams for her amazing creativity and work and time in creating and designing the brochure and website announcements and making sure that it was such a great success!
EDGE 15 Players Alex Seel and Samantha Gerhart presented the check to Ann, Michelle and Special Olympics Athletes.....
