Coach Lord began coaching volleyball in 1973.  Over the past 45 years Coach Lord’s coaching experience has included; middle school, high school, adults, travel teams, camps and clinics.  She introduced JV and Middle School tournaments in the county which became annual events.    Coach Lord started and served as the director of Southern Maryland Juniors (SMJ’s) which was the first and continues to be the only travel volleyball program in Calvert County.  She ran the program while also serving as one the coaches for 22 years until she moved to Dover. 

Coach Lord is credited with starting or rebuilding each of the four high school programs in Calvert County.  All of these programs went on to win regionals, all were state finalists, and three of the schools won state titles.  The Washington Post recognized all four of these schools by ranking them among the top ten volleyball programs in Washington, Maryland and Virginia during Coach Lord’s tenure at each of the schools.

Overall accomplishments and recognition:

Undefeated in the SMAC conference for 5 consecutive years, conference champions 6 times Named SMAC, All County, and Southern Maryland Coach of the Year                                     

Inducted into the Hall of Fame for three of the four schools where she coached  Voted “All Met Coach of the Year” by the Washington Post sport writers                            

Recipient of the USA Volleyball Meritorious Service Award                                                        

Named “Person of the Decade” for the impact she had on the development of girls sports in Calvert County                                                                                                                                       In 2016 Coach Lord was selected to receive the Richard F. O’Donnell Lifetime Achievement Award
